Medallion Grand Aubusson Pillow
This aubusson is a very beautiful hand woven wool pillow. The combination of colors chosen make for an interesting and very attractive piece. The center pattern has soft salmon, persimmon, rust, burnt sienna, medium brown and wheat at the center. It creates a deep rosey tone without being pink at all. This design is on an oval in tumeric, giving a definite warm feel to it! I would say it is not bright, just perfectly prominent. The outer oval of brown is more like nutmeg and light brown. The medallion rests on an acanthus leaf of varied blue-green tones. Very pretty! The leaves on either side of the medallion are correctly green by comparison. Olive, forest green and dusty sage. This is the first aubusson I've noticed that has contrasting colors in the leaf patterns. It's give it a dramatic look without obviously knowing why. That's the way it should be.
The entire design is against a beige background of tea stained, natural wool threads. A line of chocolate brown is next to that and then a camel color. I love this wound tassel trim of sage and bronze. This aubusson is backed in a cotton velvet of a deep bronzy-green. Altogether, this is a very good looking pillow. Down and feather insert and measures 14x36.
