The Hustler Needlepoint Pillow
based on original watercolor by
Arthur Sarnoff
1912-2000
A Decade before Jackie Gleason and Paul Newman's 'The Hustler" (1961), there was Arthur Sarnoff's "The Hustler". After the un trained Cassius Coolidge's 1903 "Dogs Playing..." entered Public Domain, Sarnoff produced a number of anthropomorphized dogs such as the one pictured here in, "The Hustler". Obviously building on work started by Coolidge, the professionally trained Sarnoff never credited the self-taught Coolidge with the idea.
